When we think of the depths and heights that love brings to our lives we can start to understand why losing someone that we have loved can cause extreme emotions.

Our hearts can feel like they are behind a locked door and there is no key to find a way in! Over the next several weeks, we are going to uncover ways Biblical Characters unlocked the doors to their hearts to let healing shine through.

Creating a Sacred Space for Grief is essential.

In John chapter 19, Jesus has been sentenced to death and crucified. It has been three days! His disciples are in deep grief, scattered and scared… They are literally behind a locked door hiding from the Roman soldiers, angry Jewish leaders and their new reality without Jesus. What are they going to do with their lives now? Their hope of the New Kingdom promised by Jesus? Their broken dreams of the restoration of the Jewish nation?

Then in John chapter 20, then Jesus Appears to His Disciples.

He does not need a key, even though He holds the keys to every heart and every spiritual door.

Verse 19, "Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

Peace. Isn't that what we want to reside in our hearts instead of the chaos grief brought with it? Are you missing it? I sure was!

And so was Thomas! Guess what?!? Our Gracious Lord does not leave anyone behind!

Verse 26, "A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

Peace again!

I needed to hear it twice. How about you?

He does not forget Thomas or us. Thomas then asked for some additional comfort.

My guess is that if you are reading this you may need a little more than "just" peace right now too...

Like Thomas we are all saying...“Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

Jesus responds to Thomas' request.

Verse 27, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side.

Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Jesus entered a locked room where His disciples hid in fear to call them to peace and comfort.

Jesus confronted Thomas’s specific doubts with faith-building proof.

Jesus Christ can break any barrier blocking our healing too!

This is the power of the One who has defeated death.

Will you ask Him to enter into your locked heart with me today?

I believe you WILL find Him there and join Thomas in saying,

“My Lord and my God!”
